Track & Field to compete at NSIC Challenge Saturday in Mankato
The Bemidji State University track & field team is set to compete at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Challenge Saturday, Feb. 12 in Mankato, Minn., hosted by Minnesota State University, Mankato. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. followed by running events at 12 p.m. from Myers Fieldhouse.
Senior mid-distance runner Maryse Mbenoun broke the Bemidji State track & field 500-meter dash record as the team competed at the NDSU Open in Fargo, N.D., Feb. 4-5.
Mbenoun earned an event win in the 500m dash with a time of 1:17.83, breaking Shelby McCrady’s record of 1:18.37 set in 2004. Also earning an event win for the Beavers was freshman Amanda Hernesman in the 1000m run with a time of 3:26.40.
The Beavers finished with 11 top-five finishes, including a second-place finish by freshman Carol Miller in the 1000m run with a personal record time of 3:27.44. Junior Lily Johnson earned a third-place finish in the 500m run with a personal record time of 1:29.52 while sophomore Mary Goodwin took third in the 3000m run with a personal record time of 11:03.46.
Sophomore Alaina Hall finished fourth in the 60m dash finals with a time of 7.79 while sophomore Rachel Myers set a personal record with a fourth-place time of 42.00 in the 300m dash.
In total, the Beavers saw 28 personal records fall in the meet.
