Beaver Baseball’s NSIC schedule begins Saturday, Sunday at Golden Bears
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball schedule begins March 19-20 as Bemidji State University takes on Concordia University-St. Paul at Veterans Field in Minnetonka, Minn. The Beavers and Golden Bears will play a three-game series, including a doubleheader Saturday.
Bemidji State went 3-3 during its spring trip March 6-11 at the Tucson Invitational Games in Tucson, Ariz.
BSU’s first win of the season, including Head Coach Matt Ellinghuysen’s first career win at the helm, came in a 12-4 decision over the University of Jamestown.
Two of the Beavers’ three wins were by at least eight runs. BSU took a 3-1 win over Park University-Gilbert before a 12-2 win over Northland College to extend its winning streak to three games.
The Beavers are averaging 5.1 runs per game and hitting .244 with a .328 slugging percentage and a .334 on-base percentage. BSU is 21-of-26 on stolen base attempts and has caught opposing base runners stealing six times.
BSU’s pitching staff holds a 5.59 ERA, an opposing batting average of .314 and 97 strikeouts to 53 walks.
Senior Sam Kalberer leads BSU with a .383 batting average, a .596 slugging percentage, a .463 on-base percentage, 18 hits, seven walks and four doubles. He has two three-hit games, is on an eight-game hitting streak and is on a 10-game reached base streak.
Freshman Hunter Daymond is also on a 10-game reached base streak and has one of BSU’s four three-hit games. Sophomore Jack Munson recorded BSU’s first four-RBI game of the season during its win over Jamestown.
Sophomore pitcher Grant Hartmann earned his first career win at BSU after throwing 6.0 innings against Park (AZ). He recorded five strikeouts and did not allow a run or a walk, with just one extra-base hit allowed.
Junior pitcher Jake Matise holds a 1.50 ERA during five relief appearances and 6.0 innings pitched with seven strikeouts and one earned run allowed. Junior pitcher Jackson Back has a 3.14 ERA in 14.1 innings with 11 strikeouts and an opposing batting average of .218.
