The Bemidji State University football team hits the road for its first road test of the 2022 season and will face No. 19 Augustana University at Kirkeby-Over Stadium in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Beavers (0-1, 0-1 NSIC) and Vikings (1-0, 1-0 NSIC) are slated to face-off at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10.
After entering the 2022 season at No. 22 in the American Football Coaches’ Association national poll, the Beavers are now receiving votes after their three-point loss to Minnesota State University, Mankato in the season opener. Augustana is ranked 19th in the poll and is coming off a season-opening 28-14 win at Concordia University- St. Paul.
Bemidji State is 4-8 all-time against Augustana but won the last meeting 28-24 in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Football Tournament.
The Beavers totaled 425 yards against the Mavericks a week ago including 367 through the air. Junior Brandon Alt led the Beavers by going 29-of-48 with 367 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. Junior Sage Booker paced BSU with 122 all-purpose yards including 90 receiving yards on three receptions and 32 rushing yards on 10 attempts. He scored three of the Beavers’ five touchdowns including a 66-yard receiving touchdown on the games’ first drive.
On defense, Bemidji State allowed 331 yards to the Mavericks including 235 through the air. Junior Spencer Wehr paced the team with 10 tackles while Colton Herman followed with eight and one interception. The “Gang-Green” defense forced three turnovers last weekend with Herman and Princeten Harris each collecting interceptions. Senior Stephen Hoffman paces BSU with 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack while Marco Cavallaro also recorded a sack last weekend.
