BSU looks to keep momentum rolling against Sioux Falls and No. 8 SMSU
The Bemidji State University volleyball team looks to continue its winning streak alive this weekend as it hosts University of Sioux Falls and No. 8 Southwest Minnesota State University September 23 and 24. The Beavers (3-9, 2-2 NSIC) will face Sioux Falls (7-4, 3-1 NSIC) Friday at 6:00 p.m., and then the eighth-ranked Mustangs (11-1, 3-1 NSIC) Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
This season junior Hallie Mertz has led the Beavers in kills now totaling 119 and ranks third on the team for digs with 82. Also, in the top three are sophomores Lauren Sitter with 66 and Ashley Crowl with 63. After the successful weekend the teams hitting percentage went up 30 points to .142 with senior Rylee Pompa leading the Beavers with a hitting percentage of .248.
Setting for the Beavers have been freshmen Hally Holker and sophomore Emily Wade. Holker has assisted on 179 kills and Wade with 172.
On defense, Lauren Justesen is ranked eighth in the conference with her average of digs per set coming to 3.97. Justesen has tallied up 139 digs in 35 sets. The Beavers now have four women with double digits blocks after only having Sitter in the double digits. Joining Sitter is Rylie Bjerklie (18), Pompa (17) and senior Ashley East (11), Sitter is up to 16.
