Beavers look for strong start for second half of season
The Bemidji State University women’s soccer team starts the second half of its season with interstate play against University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University Friday, September 30 and Sunday, Oct. 2.
The Beavers (4-2-3, 3-1-2 NSIC) start the road trip against Minnesota Duluth (3-4-2, 2-2-2 NSIC) Friday, with a 6:00 p.m., kick-off. BSU then continues the trip Sunday to face St. Cloud State (3-4-2, 2-2-2 NSIC) at 1:00 p.m. Live stats and game streams can be found, here.
The Beavers are coming of a 1-0-1 weekend scoring two goals in two games. Allyson Smith started the scoring with the winning goal in the 59th minute against Augustana. Erin Becker scored in the following game against Wayne State in a 1-1 tie.
The Beavers against the Bulldogs started off one sided with Duluth leading the all-time series 16-7-5, however BSU has turned it around winning four of the last six meeting while tying in two others. In their last meeting, the Beavers took a 1-0 victory with the lone goal by Allyson Smith.
The all-time series against St. Cloud State is currently all tied up at 10-10-2. In the last meeting the Beavers earned commanding 3-0 victory with goals coming from Miah Olson, Sara Wendt and Halle Peterson.
The Beavers are led by fifth-year senior Sara Wendt with eight points off three goals and two assists. Following with two goals and two assists is fifth-year senior Erin Becker and with two goals and an assist is Allyson Smith.
In goal has been senior Alyssa Stumbaugh who has started seven of the nine games for the Beavers. Stumbaugh has a save percentage of .818, allowing 1.14 goals a game and has 36 saves.
