Beavers finish second in NSIC regular season with 2-0 victory at UMC
The Bemidji State University women’s soccer team wrapped up their regular season with a 2-0 victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston Thursday afternoon. With the victory the Beavers (11-2-5, 10-1-4 NSIC) finished second in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with 34 league points.
The Beavers continued their hot streak by going undefeated in their last 11 matches including eight wins. Fifth-year senior Erin Becker started the scoring in the 30th minute against the Golden Eagles (2-15-1, 1-13-1 NSIC) with a penalty kick in the bottom right corner for her fifth goal of the season and third on penalties. Eleven minutes later senior Emily Baurr followed it up with her first career goal on a long 25-yard shot from outside the box. Freshman Tirzah Lange assisted on Baurr’s goal, also earning the first of her career.
Bemidji State had its offensive opportunities by recording 23 shots, 11 on goal. Becker led the team in shots with eight, five on target and one past the keeper. Sara Wendt kept the goalie on her toes with five shots and two on goal.
Senior Georgiana Harber posted her fifth shutout of the season and third consecutive to improve to 5-0-2 on the season. Harber saw two shots on goal during the game and saved both of them.
The Beavers will host the first round of the NSIC tournament Monday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. They await their opponent who will be determined later tonight but will face the seventh seed in the NSIC standings at Chet Anderson Stadium.
