Bemidji hosts Valley City and Mayville State for 2022-23 season opener

The Bemidji State University women’s basketball opens the 2022-23 season as the Beavers host Valley City State University and Mayville State University this weekend at BSU Gymnasium. BSU starts the season against VCSU at 6 p.m., Friday followed by MSU Monday at 6 p.m.

The Beavers finished last season with a record of 14-13 and 11-10 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play and made the quarterfinals of the NSIC tournament. BSU was selected to finish 10th overall in the NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll and sixth in the NSIC North Division Poll. The Beavers totaled 98 points in the overall poll and 19 points in the divisional in the 2022-23 NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

In season and home openers, the Beavers are 5-2 under head coach Chelsea Stoltenberg. BSU has one returning starter in Trinity Yoder with 12 other returners and four new comers. The 14-win season was the best since the 2006-07 season.

Last season, BSU ranked third in the league in field goal percentage (43.6%), second in 3-point field goal percentage (34.0%) and seventh in scoring offense (67.6 ppg) and defense (65.2 ppg).

Trinity Yoder is returning to the team after being named NSIC All Conference in her 2021-22 season. Yoder was able to record her 1000th career point on Jan. 29 last season. She was second on the team in point (12.9 ppg) and rebounds (5.1 rpg) and led the team in steal with 55 on the season.
