The Bemidji State University Women’s Hockey team fell 13-1 to No. 2 University of Wisconsin Friday afternoon in game one of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at Sanford Center. The 12-goal loss is the worst loss for the Beavers since Feb. 26, 1999 (12-0 vs. Minnesota State).

Wisconsin started the game by scoring on the very first shot just 1:06 after the opening puck drop to cruise to the eventual 13-1 victory. The Badgers (12-2-1, 9-1-1 WCHA) scored four goals in the first period, three in the second and then six in the third period.

Bemidji State’s lone goal in the game came off the stick of freshman Mya Headrick who scored her first collegiate goal at the 7:25 mark of the third period.

Casey O’Brien paced the Badgers with five points (2g-4a) while Britta Curl recorded the hat trick and finished with five points as well as Sophie Shirley who had two goals the three assists.

Bemidji State was out-shot 55-9 in the game.

Junior Hannah Hogenson made 27 saves in 40 minutes between the pipes and was replaced by Abbie Thompson in the third period who made 15 saves.

Bemidji State will aim for a much better effort when the two teams meet for game two at 2:01 p.m., back at Sanford Center.

Bob – Had season tickets since we went D1. Gave them up this year, watching on Flo sports not drinking $30 rounds for two drinks at sanford center. Been to a few games this year. But prices need to drop before I commit to a year again. There’s your attendance.
