Beavers travel west for Bubble Invite in Minot, N.D.

Bemidji State enters second early season tournament

The Bemidji State University Softball team competes in its second tournament during the early season in the Bubble Invite hosted by Minot State University at the Air-Supported Dome in Minot, N.D. The Beavers (1-3) will play in four games spanning Friday, Feb. 17, 2023 through Sunday.

Bemidji State will start the invitational with the host Minot State Friday at 5 p.m. BSU will compete in a double header the following day and get its first look at non-conference teams in University of Providence (Mont.) at 2:00 p.m., and then Carroll College. The Beavers end the weekend stretch against Montana State University, Billings at 11:00 a.m., Sunday.

Minot State enter the weekend 5-4 after finishing the Lubbock Sports College Invitational 1-4 with its one win coming against Chadron State College in nine innings. Providence is starting its season at this tournament; Carroll College is 2-2 and Montana State-Billings is 2-5.

The Beavers return to the diamond after going 1-3 in the Kelly Laas Memorial Softball Tournament, winning their first game of the season against St. Cloud State University 3-1. The win over the Huskies was the first since April 12, 2017 with an 8-0 victory.

Senior Ashley Herold finished the weekend hitting .400 with four hits, three being doubles and three RBIs. In her first at bat of the season sophomore Alexa Christenson hit the first BSU homerun of the season to put Bemidji State up 2-0 against St. Cloud State. Mariah Stevenson finished with the second-best batting average going 3-for-9 at the plate along with drawing a walk.

Stella Dolan (1-2) picked up her first win of the season against the Huskies allowing one run and striking out four batters through seven innings. Dolan finished the weekend with an ERA of 8.40 while pitching 11.2 innings. Kyla Damerow (0-1) pitched seven innings last weekend with four strikeouts and an ERA of 6.00.
