Beavers to open outdoor track and field season this week at Yellowjackets/Battlin’ Bears Open
Bemidji State travels to Montana competing in two days to start outdoor season
The Bemidji State University Women’s Track and Field team will get the chance to open the outdoor season this Friday and Saturday when they travel to Montana to compete in the Yellowjackets/Battlin’ Bears Open.
The two-day meet will begin at 3 p.m. (CST) on Friday with the triple jump and javelin. Then the action on Saturday begins at 4 p.m. (CST) with the pole vault, long jump, shot put and discus.
Bemidji State will be traveling 17 student-athletes this week competing in a variety of events.
Josie Aitken will compete in the 400-meter and the 4×400 relay. This will be Aitken’s first collegiate outdoor meet, having run a top time of 1:01.47 in the 400 during this past indoor season.
Abbie Disbrow will enter in the 100-meter and triple jump. This will also be Disbrow’s first collegiate outdoor meet, having run the 60-meter and competed in the long jump and triple jump during the indoor season. Her top mark in the triple jump was a distance of 33-9.5 during the indoor season.
Tierra Doss is set to compete in the shot put, discus and hammer. Doss set the school record in the outdoor discus last year with a mark of 148-5 during the NSIC Outdoor Championships. Her top mark in the hammer is 144-4 and has a top outdoor shot put distance of 43-11.75.
Lexi Erickson will compete in the 1,500-meter, high jump and the 4×400 relay. This will be Erickson’s first outdoor meet as a member of the Beavers, running in the 1,000, 3,000 and mile during the indoor season. She also reached a height of 5-1.75 during the indoor high jump.
Natalie Fultz will enter in the 400-meter hurdles, high jump and 4×400 relay. Fultz closed the outdoor season strong last year hitting a new height of 5-1.25 in the outdoor high jump. She posted a time of 1:05.70 in the 400-meter hurdles last year.
Alexis Gehrig is set to compete in the discus and hammer. Gehrig set a personal-best in the hammer during the 2021 season hitting a mark of 132-6. This will be Gehrig’s first time throwing the discus outdoors with the Beavers, having thrown the discus once during this most recent indoor year.
Mary Goodwin is set to compete in the 5,000-meter. Goodwin recently set her PR time in the 5,000 last year posting a time of 19:24.61.
Alyssa Hill, fresh off a strong true freshman season on the basketball court, will now prepare to throw the discus and hammer this week.
Lily Johnson will compete in the 400-meter and the javelin. Johnson posted a time of 1:09.24 last year in the 400-meter hurdles. This will be her first time throwing the javelin.
Maggie McCarthy will enter in the 1,500-meter. This will be her first collegiate outdoor meet after competing in the 800 and 1,000 during the indoor season.
Carol Miller will compete in the 1,500-meter. Miller hit a new PR time in the event last year crossing at 5:20.06.
Olivia Olson will enter in the 100-meter and the pole vault. Olson reached a height of 10-4 in the pole vault last year. The meet before hitting that mark, she reached a PR time of 13.36 in the 100-meter.
Mikenna Pattrin will compete in the shot put, discus, hammer and javelin. Pattrin posted a throw of 35-11.5 in the shot put last year. She reached a top distance of 90-3 in the discus, a mark of 134-7 in the hammer and then a distance of 105-2 in the javelin during her first outdoor season.
Zayda Priebe will compete in the shot put, discus and hammer. This will be her first collegiate outdoor meet, having competed in both the shot put and weight throw during the indoor season. Priebe’s top distance in the shot put from the indoor season was 38-3.5.
Callie Ressler will enter in the 1,500-meter. This will be her first collegiate outdoor meet, having competed in the 1,000 and the mile during the indoor season.
Cassidy Schmidt will enter in the shot put, discus and hammer. This will be her first collegiate outdoor meet, having competed in the shot put and weight throw during the indoor season. She hit a mark of 30-9.75 in the shot put during the indoor season.
Abby Syverson will compete in the 800-meter. Syverson posted a time of 2:22.61 in the event last outdoor season.
Aitken, Erickson, Fultz and Syverson will enter in the 4×400 relay. The group ran a top time of 3:59.04 during the 4×400 relay during the indoor season.
