Beavers’ home doubleheader with St. Cloud State pushed to Thursday
With rain forecasted this week, the Bemidji State University Baseball team’s home doubleheader against St. Cloud State University has been pushed back a day to Thursday, April 27. The Beavers (2-39, 1-25 NSIC) will now host the Huskies (22-14, 14-7 NSIC) at the BSU Baseball Field for a two-game set with first pitch of game one scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
St. Cloud State enters Thursday’s doubleheader fourth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings with a 14-7 league record and have won its last five games including sweeping University of Mary in three games April 23-24. The Huskies led the NSIC by hitting .328 as a team and have scored the third-most runs in the league with 322.
Junior John Nett is the conference leader at the plate by batting .430 in 142 at bats and is second in the conference with an on-base percentage of .512. Nett has recorded 61 hits and leads the conference with 16 doubles and has two triples, three home runs and 37 RBI. He has also earned 20 walks on the season while striking out just 12 times and is fifth in the conference with 14 stolen bases.
Redshirt senior Sam Riola leads the Huskies on the mound and has pitched 44.0 innings in nine appearances with seven starts. He has posted a 3.68 ERA along with a 2-2 record and has punched out 57 batters, 11th most in the conference. The Huskies rank fifth in the NSIC with a team ERA of 5.22 and are second with five shutouts this season.
The Huskies have won the last 13 meetings between the two teams dating back to April 28, 2018, the Beavers’ last win versus SCSU.
Bemidji State is led by junior Jack Munson who is batting .324 in 139 at bats and has recorded 45 hits off nine doubles, three triples, seven home runs and has driven in 27 RBI. His three triples are tied for seventh most in the NSIC while his seven home runs are tied for 19th. He has posted a .583 slugging percentage and .360 on-base percentage to lead the team in each category.
Senior Logan Barrick leads the Beavers on the mound and has made nine appearances with eight starts and has pitched a team-leading 49.2 innings. He is 1-3 with an ERA of 5.07 to stand 18th in the NSIC and has struck out 40 batters while walking 22. He is followed by junior Will Lavin who has pitched in 40.2 innings and has posted an ERA of 7.75. His 53 strikeouts leads the team and is 13th in the NSIC. He has totaled 148 career strikeouts, second-most at Bemidji State.
