BSU Women’s Hockey falls 4-1 in series finale Sunday
Beavers surrender three goals in third period to fall to 0-2-0
The Bemidji State University Women’s Hockey team surrendered three goals in the third period and fell 4-1 in the series finale at Lindenwood University Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. Freshman Hailey Armstrong scored the lone goal for the Beavers in the second period.
Lindenwood opened the scoring late in the first period when Sarah Davies scored at the 14:55 mark.
The Beavers didn’t answer until the second period when Armstrong scored her first collegiate goal on a breakaway halfway through the second period.
The Beavers (0-2-0) and Lions (2-0-0) would enter the third period locked in the 1-1 tie but Lindenwood would pull away by scoring three goals in the final two minutes to claim the 4-1 victory. The period’s scoring was started by Rachel Goff at the 4:46 mark followed by Thea Jorgenson at 8:27 and then Morgan Neitzke sealed the game with an empty-net goal with 1:24 left.
Bemidji State was out-shot 29-23 in the game including 9-6 in the final 20 minutes.
Freshman Eva Filippova started her first collegiate game and stopped 25-of-28 shots but falls to 0-1-0.
The Beavers went 0-for-2 on the power play but halted the Lions’ power play denying them on all four of their chances.
Bemidji State will have this weekend off but will return to action Oct. 6-7 and host its first series of the season by hosting Rensselaer Polytechnic University at Sanford Center.
