BSU Men’s Basketball set to host first games of season against Northland on Tuesday and Oak Hills Christian on Thursday

The Bemidji State University Men’s Basketball team returns home from Kansas City for their first home games of the 2023-24 season when they face Northland on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. and Oak Hills Christian on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. inside the BSU Gym.

Bemidji State is off to a 1-1 start to the season after defeating Henderson State in the season opener (76-63) before falling short to Missouri Southern (69-61).

John Sutherland leads the team averaging 25.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He is shooting nearly 65 percent (22-34) from the field. Dalton Albrecht is averaging a double-double with 13.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. He’s shooting over 45 percent (5-11) from three-point range. Johnny Tennyson adds 11 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per contest. Brayden Williams gives the Beavers four in double figures in terms of scoring at 10.0 per game. He also adds 4.0 rebounds per contest. Colin Schaefer leads the team with 13 assists and averages 7.5 points.

Last year, Bemidji State opened the home schedule with a 115-54 win against Oak Hills Christian. Sutherland paced the Beavers with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Albrecht added 19 points and eight rebounds.

Then later in the season, the Beavers hosted Northland on Jan. 2 claiming the 91-82 victory. Albrecht led BSU with 23 points.

Northland is 0-1 to start the season having lost to St. Scholastica on the road on Nov. 8 by a score of 84-74. The Jacks also played North Dakota in an exhibition on Nov. 1 in Grand Forks.

Drew Lindberg led Northland in the season opener with 23 points and six rebounds. Langston Flowers and Jaden Jones added 10 points apiece.

Bemidji State is 49-7 against Northland since 1941 and have won the last 10 meetings. BSU is 31-1 at home against the Jacks during that time.

Oak Hills Christian is 0-1 on the season having opened against Rockford on Nov. 10 falling by a score of 96-43. The Wolfpack will play Minnesota North College-Hibbing this Tuesday before facing the Beavers.

Emmanuel Coffy and Josiah Molton led Oak Hills Christian scoring 11 points apiece against Rockford.

Bemidji State is 3-0 in the series against Oak Hills Christian since 2017 with all three meetings being played inside the BSU Gym.

Following the two home games this week, Bemidji State will be off until traveling to Florida for the Eckerd College Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 24 and Nov. 25. The Beavers will play Tampa and Eckerd.
