BSU Women’s Soccer falls 2-1 to Emporia State in second round of NCAA Tournament
The Bemidji State University Women’s Soccer team’s NCAA Tournament run came to an end Sunday afternoon after the Beavers fell 2-1 to Emporia State University in the second round of the NCAA DII Women’s Soccer Tournament at ESU Soccer Pitch in Emporia, Kan.
Emporia State’s Mackenzie Dimarco scored in the 77th minute to send the Hornets into the Central Region Championship match.
The Beavers finish the 2023 season with a 13-4-6 record, the seventh most wins in the program’s 28 seasons. Seniors Halle Peterson, Maggie Cade and Madisanne Dahl played their final match for the green and white in the loss.
Bemidji State got the start it wanted scoring first in the 18th minute off a corner kick in which Kenzie Harer tracked down a loose ball in the box to score her third goal of the season and second of the postseason.
The Beavers’ lead didn’t make it to halftime and in the 30th minute Hornets’ Hannah Woolery tied the match with a long shot to score her fifth of the season.
The score would be knotted at one when the halftime buzzer sounded and the two team’s played 31 minutes tied 1-1 before Dimarco scored her 22nd goal of the season in the 77th minute.
The Beavers pressed desperate to find the equalizer in the final 13 minutes but were unable to find the equalizing mark effectively ending their 2023 campaign.
BSU was outshot 8-4 in shots on goal in the match with freshman Ana Steadman earning her second career start and made six saves.
Emporia State advances to play Washburn University for the Central Region Championship hosted by Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.
