Beavers fall in final two games at Kelly Laas Memorial tournament
BSU Softball falls to Black Hills State and Sioux Falls to end Kelly Laas Memorial tournament
The Bemidji State University Softball team fell in both games on the final day of the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament Sunday morning at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud, Minn. The Beavers fell 7-2 to Black Hills State University to begin the day then fell 9-1 to University of Sioux Falls.
The Beavers’ (0-4) bats struggled on the final day producing just three runs off 12 hits in both games.
Bemidji State totaled two runs off seven hits in the first game of the day and were led by the Christenson twins who each collected two hits off two singles while Aimee added a walk. Sophomore Grace Gumiela hit the lone extra-base hit for the Beavers, a double in the sixth inning that brought in the Beavers’ second run of the game. Freshman Avery Amidon drove in the Beavers’ first run with a ground-out in the second inning.
Senior Stella Dolan pitched her second complete game by pitching all seven innings and allowed seven runs off 12 hits and struck out three. She falls to 0-2 on the season with the loss.
Bemidji State was held to one run off five hits in the second game of the day with five different Beavers collecting a hit. Sophomore Elle Hastings had the lone extra-base hit for the Beavers with a double in the third inning with Alexa Christenson driving her in with a single to score BSU’s lone run.
Hastings also started the game in the circle for the Beavers and pitched 2.2 innings allowing seven runs off eight hits with one strikeout to pick her first loss of the season. Freshman Danica Sarff pitched the final two innings and allowed two runs off four hits.
Bemidji State will now be off for two weeks before returning to play for the Lewis Dome Invitational in Rosemount, Ill., from Feb. 23-25.
