Beavers compete in both the SDSU Indoor Challenge and Maverick Premier posting solid results
Doss places second in the shot put and Goodwin third in the 3,000-meter
The Bemidji State University Track and Field team had the chance to compete in both the SDSU Indoor Challenge in Brookings and then the Maverick Premier in Mankato. The Beavers competed both days at the SDSU Indoor Challenge and Saturday at the Maverick Premier. BSU came away with a pair of top-three results with Tierra Doss placing second in the shot put and Mary Goodwin third in the 3,000-meter.Goodwin placed third in the 3,000-meter posting a time of 10:06.48.
Goodwin then led the Beavers in the mile crossing with a time of 5:06.85 to place 22nd. Carol Miller added a time of 5:27.10 to come in 60th. Nadia Vaughn came in 78th with a time of 5:38.93. Sydnie Price rounded out the results for the Beavers placing 98th with a time of 6:19.28.
The Beavers had three compete in the 200-meter with Janice Cole leading the way coming in 11th with a time of 25.78. Abby Syverson and Josie Aitken finished almost at the same time with Syverson crossing at 27.18 to place 27th and Josie Aitken came in 28th with a time of 27.25.
Cole and Gabrielle Wilson both competed in the 60-meter qualifying with Cole collecting a time of 7.94 to place 19th and Wilson with a time of 9.32 to place 49th. Wilson then competed with Natalie Fultz in the 60-meter hurdles with Fultz coming in 33rd with a time of 9.63 and Wilson coming in 59th with a time of 11.48.
Aitken and Syverson finished almost at the same time in the 400-meter with Aitken coming in 18th with a time of 1:01.05 and Syverson in 19th with a time of 1:01.25.
Maggie McCarthy placed 50th in the 800-meter with a time of 2:27.96.
Hadley Stuehrenberg ran to a time of 3:26.36 to place 23rd in the 1,000-meter.
To close the SDSU Indoor Challenge, the Beavers entered a 4×400 team of Syverson, Fultz, Cole and Aitken that placed 12th with a time of 4:02.07.
In Mankato, Mikenna Pattrin led the Beavers in the weight throw hitting a mark of 51-6.50 to place sixth. Emma Erickson was the next one in for the Beavers hitting a distance of 45-10.00 to place 14th. Hannah Baker came in 20th with a throw of 42-4.75. Cassidy Schmidt placed 24th (39-9.25) and Zoe Lennon in 25th (32-8.50). Baker, Schmidt and Lennon all hit new personal-best marks.
Doss paced the Beavers in the shot put finishing runner-up hitting a distance of 44-4.00. Pattrin placed eighth with a distance of 40-5.00. Erickson posted a new PR distance of 34-7.50 to come in 21st. Schmidt was right behind in 22nd hitting a mark of 33-0.50. Baker came in 23rd with a distance of 33-00.50. Zayde Priebe placed 26th (32-3.00) and Lennon hit a new PR distance of 31-6.00 to place 27th.
Olivia Olson competed in the 60-meter prelims crossing at 8.12 to place 22nd. She also competed in the pole vault clearing 9-10.50 to place 20th.
Bemidji State will now prepare to host the BSU Twilight this coming Friday starting at 3 p.m. in the Gillett Wellness Center. The Beavers will also compete in the UND Tune Up next Saturday (Feb. 17) in Grand Forks.
