BSU Baseball closes out non-conference season at William Jewell and Missouri-St. Louis
Beavers travel to Kansas City area for six games
The Bemidji State University Baseball team continues the non-conference portion of its 2024 schedule this weekend and travels to Liberty, Mo., to take on William Jewell College for a four-game series beginning Friday March 1 and then travels to St. Louis, Mo., to take on University of Missouri-St. Louis for a doubleheader on Monday.
The Beavers (0-8) and Cardinals (2-2) begin their series Friday with a single game at 3:00 pm followed by a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 pm and will end the series on Sunday with game four at 1:00 pm. On Monday, the Beavers will take on the Tritons (5-3) in a doubleheader starting at 11:00 am.
Bemidji State travels to William Jewell and St. Louis looking for its first win on the season after falling short in four games last weekend against Rockhurst.
Leading for the Beavers is freshman Matt Filippi who is batting .478 with 11 hits, two RBI’s and one home run. He is followed by sophomore Jackson Schaffer averaging .417 off 10 hits and has driven in six RBI’s
Freshman Jacob Smith leads the Beavers pitching staff and in 8.1 innings, has totaled a 6.48 ERA, 2.28 WHIP and struck out six batters. Derek Hoffman follows with a 11.70 ERA in 10 innings pitched and has struck out eight batters. Filippi has also been a two-way specialist for the Beavers and has pitched 4.2 innings from the bullpen and leads the team with 1.71 WHIP and nine strikeouts.
