Schwoch’s second-half goal lifts Beavers to 1-1 draw with Marauders
Freshman Grace Schwoch scores in the 62nd minute to earn BSU Women’s Soccer draw with Mary
Bemidji State University Women’s Soccer freshman Grace Schwoch scored in the 62nd minute to earn the Beavers a 1-1 draw with University of Mary Sunday afternoon at Chet Anderson Stadium.
The Beavers earned their first tie of the season and move to 8-4-1 (6-2-1 NSIC) while the Marauders moved to 7-2-3 (5-1-3 NSIC). BSU remains second in the NSIC standings with 19 league points but are now tied with Augustana University which has a matching league record.
Mary dominated play in the first half out-shooting the Beavers 9-2 in the half. Bemidji State goalkeeper Sonia Alfieri kept the Marauders off the scoreboard for most of the half making five saves but they were able to find the back of the net in the 42nd minute off a goal from Maicee Burke, her first of the season.
The Beavers made adjustments at halftime and it helped as they out-shot the Marauders 6-4 in the half. Bemidji State’s hard work finally paid off in the second half when Schwoch capitalized off a free kick from the right sideline after freshman Maggie Kramer placed the ball perfectly to the back post.
The goal was the second of the season for Schwoch while Kramer earned her third assist on the play.
Alfieri finished the game with six saves while the Beavers’ offense produced three shots on goal.
The Beavers will now prepare for a crucial road trip this weekend when they travel to Wayne State College and Augustana University Oct. 25 and 27.
