Bemidji State University Men’s Basketball prepares to host Valley City State University Wednesday for the Beavers’ Home Opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from the BSU Gymnasium.
The Beavers and Vikings have met 54 times since 1948, but only twice in the past two decades. In the Head Coach Mike Boschee era, the two teams’ series is split with one win each. The Beavers defeated the Vikings 88-70 on Nov. 17, 2017, then the Vikings hosted the following season and took a 86-83 victory.
The Beavers enter this week 1-1 after splitting games against University of Central Missouri and University of Arkansas Monticello at the Central Region Challenge last weekend.
BSU fell to UCM Friday afternoon, 68-74. Tate Olson started his season strong with 20 points and eight rebounds against the Mules. Saturday, BSU took down UAM by a score of 64-55 with just two Beavers combining for almost half of BSU’s points.
Two Beavers, Tate Olson and Malang Athian, grabbed the first double double games of the season with Olson marking 12 points and 11 rebounds and Athian tallying 19 points with 10 rebounds, both against Arkansas-Monticello.
Olson leads BSU in points scored and points per game, defensive and total rebounds, assists and field goal and three-point shooting percentages.
Defensively, the Beavers have marked 12 total steals in two games. Additionally, they’ve tallied four blocks against opponents.
Following Wednesday’s game, the Beavers take a short break until hosting University of Minnesota Morris Tues. Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for both games are available at Hometown Ticketing now.
