BSU hosts NSU and MSUM as first half of season winds down
Beaver Men’s Basketball will host double header against Wolves and Dragons this weekend
Bemidji State University Men’s Basketball hosts Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead Friday and Saturday. The Beavers and Wolves will tip off at 7:30 p.m. Friday and the Beavers and Dragons are set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Beavers are 28-72 overall against the Wolves, dropping four of the last five games. Most recently, BSU took down NSU in February with an 86-70 victory. MSUM and BSU have been long-time foes with an all-time series dating back to February 17, 1928 when the two teams first met. The Beavers are 87-108 all time against the Dragons.
The Beavers enter the weekend at 3-5 after dropping a pair of matches to University of Minnesota Crookston and Minot State University last weekend. Currently on a four-game losing streak, BSU will host NSU and MSUM this weekend, followed by St. Cloud State University on Dec. 19th for Ugly Sweater Night.
Malang Athian leads the Beavers with 114 points in eight games, averaging 14.3 points per game. He holds a field-goal shooting percentage of .462 with 42 makes on 91 attempts. He is also tied for second on the team in rebounding with 38 total, 14 on offense and 24 on defense. Athian is ranked 11th in the NSIC for points scored.
The team’s top rebounder is Tate Olson with 74 total rebounds. Olson averages 9.3 per game and leads the team in assists with 27 in his eight games. He is second in the conference for rebounds and ninth for assists.
Peyton Newbern and Olson have cracked the top 10 in the NSIC for their assist-to-turnover ratios with Newbern in ninth at 1.4 and Olson in fifth with 1.7
