BSU hosts No. 23 SMSU and USF

Beavers to host Mustangs and Cougars Friday and Saturday

Bemidji State University Women’s Basketball hosts No. 23 Southwest Minnesota State University Friday evening and University of Sioux Falls Saturday.

Friday’s tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. with BSU’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee tabling for the NSIC’s initiative “It’s a SLAM DUNK – Don’t drive DRUNK” and a scholarship appreciation recognition during halftime of the men’s game. Saturday’s black-out game is set for 5:30 p.m. with a special Beaver Basketball alumni recognition at halftime.

The 4-12 Beavers have hit a roadblock with a four-game losing streak that began with a 96-64 loss to then No. 11 Minnesota State University Mankato. The team is 2-10 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, holding down the 14th spot in the standings with eight conference games remaining after this weekend.

Tieryn Plasch leads the Beavers with 153 points this season, averaging 9.6 points per game. She is shooting at 42.9% from the field, marking 51 made shots. At the arc, Plasch shoots at 43.9% with 36 makes, averaging 2.3 per game.

Aubrey Heyer leads the Beaver rebounding unit with 81 total, averaging 5.1 per game. She’s amassed 14 on offense and 67 on defense.

BSU is in the top five teams in the NSIC for free-throw shooting with a shooting percentage of .739.

The Beavers head to St. Cloud State University Tues. to take on the Huskies before coming home to take on the University of Mary Jan. 30 for Mental Health Awareness and Beach Night. The following Tuesday, the Beavers host University of Minnesota Crookston to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
