Beavers to host Marauders for Beach Night and Mental Health Awareness Night
Bemidji State University Men’s Basketball is set to host the University of Mary Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. at the BSU Gymnasium for Beach Night and Mental Health Awareness Night.
Fans attending Thursday’s game are encouraged to wear appropriate beach attire for the chance to win a 43-inch Vizio Smart TV from Midco. Winners will be selected at halftime of both the men’s and women’s games.
The Beavers enter Thursday 7-14 overall with a 4-11 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The team fell to St. Cloud State University, 78-71, Tuesday evening in St. Cloud. Holding 12th place in the NSIC, BSU will follow Thursday’s game with another Tuesday matchup, this time at home against the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles at 5:30
John Sutherland recorded a career high with nine assists against the Huskies Tuesday. After his return from injury at the end of December, Sutherland has climbed the ranks of the Beaver offense, grabbing a field-goal shooting percentage of .565 and marking 45 rebounds with 37 assists in nine games. He has also amassed 145 points, averaging 16.1 per game with just one of his nine games not breaking into double digits.
Leading the Beavers, Tate Olson has developed a well-rounded stat line, leading the team in scoring (236 points), field-goal shooting (.474), rebounding (8.8/game) and assists (3.0/game). The junior from New York Mills, Minn. has recorded seven double-double games with season-high points at 20 against Winona State University and a season high in rebounds at 15 at Concordia University, St. Paul.
John Pecarich leads the Beavers’ three-point shooting unit, shooting at .418 percent from the arc. Pecarich averages 1.8 makes per game with an average of 4.3 attempts.
