Beaver Fever Friday – Kylie Struble – Volleyball

The Bemidji State University Volleyball team was ranked 13th in the 2025 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, with sophomore Ava Athman named as the team’s Preseason Player to Watch. Head coach Erika Bute noted that many key starters graduated, leading to a young roster with 15 underclassmen. However, strong senior leaders help provide experience and guidance. The team is eager to improve and compete this season.

BSU received 53 points in the poll, while St. Cloud State University, the defending champions, received 212 points and was ranked first. Ava Athman had a successful freshman season, averaging 1.38 kills and contributing significantly in digs and blocks. Coach Bute praised Athman’s work ethic and readiness to take on a significant role this season.

Erika Bute is in her first season as head coach, following an assistant role in 2024. She has a strong academic background and a decorated collegiate volleyball career. The 2025 team includes several underclassmen and is led by seniors Zayda Priebe, Kylie Struble, and Jada Wlodarczyk. Bute has also recruited seven freshmen and one transfer.

Bemidji State will begin the season with matches at the Eckerd College Classic in St. Petersburg, Florida, from Sept. 5-6, and will host their first conference games on Sept. 19-20 against Southwest Minnesota State University and the University of Sioux Falls.
