Bemidji State University Cross Country kicked off the season in Sioux Falls, S.D. Friday evening with a 14th-place in the Augustana Twilight. All seven runners set personal bests in the 5,000-meter race.
Seniors Maggie McCarthy and c led the team with 60th and 86th place finishes, respectively. McCarthy moved her personal best to 19:02.40, taking fifth in the Bemidji State record books. Vaughn also etched her name in the record book at eighth all-time with a time of 19:22.9. Rounding out the Beavers’ Top 100 appearances, Sophie Rylance finished 93rd with a personal best of 19:29.6.
In her first collegiate race, Jazzlyn Hanenberger made the Top 150 at 126th with a time of 19:59.6. Ava Werner followed her at 165th, finishing at the 20:23.6 mark. Aspen Rohde and Sydnie Price rounded out the Beavers’ lineup, taking 223rd and 224th, respectively. Rohde finished 0.4 seconds before Price at 21:05.1 while Price was at 21:05.5
Following this weekend in Sioux Falls, the Beavers will have two weeks to prepare for the Roy Griak Invitational 6,000-meter race, hosted by the University of Minnesota. They’ll then head to the home of the newest members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Jamestown, N.D., home of the University of Jamestown Jimmie Invitational. Rounding out the season, the NSIC Championships are set for October 24 at the Wayne Country Club in Wayne, Neb.
