It had been 44 days since the Bemidji State women’s hockey team had recorded a win and a six game losing streak was looming in the minds of the players as they headed into Saturday’s series finale with the St. Cloud State Huskies at the National Hockey Center.
Like yesterday, the two teams skated through a scoreless first period. Bemidji State would score first, junior blueliner Allie Duellman sent a wrist shot high that was deflected into the net. Duellman was credited with her first goal of the season.
Senior Emily Erickson would add to the Beavers tally, breaking her own seven game goalless streak which would give her team a 2-0 lead at the 13:33 mark of the second period.
BSU’s senior goaltender Jessica Havel would make 20 saves for her first career shutout and help the Beaver snap a six game losing streak and find their first win in 44 days. The win would be Havel’s third win of the season.
Bemidji State had 31 shots on net, including 9 shots on the powerplay. The Beavers penalty killers only allowed one Huskie extra attacker goal in 120 minutes of play this weekend.
The Beavers are now 3-12-1 in WCHA play and 4-14-2 overall.
The Bemidji State women’s hockey team returns home on Friday to host the Minnesota State University Mavericks. The game broadcast opens with the Budweiser Pregame Show at 6:30 CT on News Channel 1300 KPMI and online at Beaver Radio Network dot com.
