The Bemidji State women’s hockey team battled from behind Saturday scoring back-to-back goals in the third period for a 2-1 win over St. Cloud State at the Sanford Center in Bemidji.
The Beavers tied up the game in the third when junior forward Rachael Kelly caught a centering pass from Kaitlyn Tougas and redirected the puck past the Huskie netminder. The powerplay goal was Kelly’s 4th goal of the season.
Bemidji State’s game-winning goal would come just a little over a minute later. BSU forward Stephanie Anderson sent a slapshot into the upper corner of the Huskie net. Rachael Kelly recorded her 4th assist of the season on the play and Anderson would end her 9-game goal scoring drought with her 3rd goal of the season.
Freshman goaltender Brittni Mowat made 26 saves for her ninth win of the season. That win ties her with former Beaver goalie Bre Dredrickson for the most wins by a freshman netminder in a season. Mowat’s record is now 9-8-2.
The Beavers are 8-1-1 when they score a powerplay goal. BSU is 9-11-2 overall and 6-9-1 in WCHA play.
The Beavers are back home next weekend to host the 2nd ranked University of Wisconsin Badgers. Both games are slated for 2:07pm, Friday and Saturday.
