Bemidji State University’s Rachael Kelly (F, Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) and Matt Prapavessis (D, Jr., Oakville, Ontario) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week, after recording outstanding athletic performances during the week of Jan. 6-12.

Kelly logged a power-play goal and assisted on the Bemidji State women’s hockey team’s game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Western Collegiate Hockey Association rival St. Cloud State University Saturday, leading the Beavers to a series split with the Huskies Jan. 10-11.

Kelly’s power play-goal tied the game Saturday 1-1 at the 16:10 mark of the third period and then junior assisted game-winning goal less than a minute later. In the series, Kelly logged 10 shots on goal.

In 18 games this season, Kelly has four goals and four assists for eight points to rank as the Beavers’ third-leading scorer, while her seven points (4g-3a) in league play leave her tied with Kaitlyn Tougas (F, So., Thunder Bay, Ontario) (2g-5a) atop BSU’s WCHA scoring list.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week selection marks first of the season for Kelly and the fourth of 2013-14 for a member of the BSU women’s hockey team. She follows Ivana Bilic (D, So., Coquitlam, British Columbia), who earned the honor Oct. 20, and the Nov. 13 and Nov. 27 selection Brittni Mowat (G, Fr., Glenboro, Manitoba).
