Hailey Horob (So., Williston, Minn.) won the pole vault and Emily Turner (So., Bingham, Minn.) captured first in the 1,000-meter run Saturday as the Bemidji State University track and field team hosted the Super 8 Open.

Horob cleared 10-6 in the pole vault and surpassed the rest of the field by nearly a foot to claim top honors. The mark matched her season-best of a year ago and currently places her 16th on the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference performance list.

Turner legged out a win in the 1,000-meters, breaking the tape in a time of three minutes-26.21 seconds, finishing nearly a full second ahead of her closest competitor. The sophomore led a trio of Beavers to finish in the top eight in the race. Emily Paquin (Jr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) posted a time of 3:42.23 to take sixth, while Jane Austin (Fr., Duluth, Minn.) claimed eighth with a time of 6:41.22.

In addition, Turner placed fourth in the mile (5:53.02).

BSU was paced in the field events by Ciara Brewster (So., Crookston, Minn.), who recorded a throw of 36 feet, 2.25 inches to finish third in the shot put.

Nikki Anderson (So., Becker, Minn.) competed in the BSU Multi Friday and Saturday and placed fourth in the pentathlon. The sophomore recorded a score of 2,296 in the five-event competition. Her multi attempt was highlighted by a second-place finish in the shot put, stretching the tape to 31-5.75.

The Beavers next travel to Menomonie, Wis. Jan. 25 to participate in the University of Wisconsin-Stout Open. Events are set to get underway at noon on the lower level of the UW-Stout Sports and Fitness Center.
