The Bemidji State University tennis team earned its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate victory in since April 14, 2012 Saturday as the team posted a 1-1 record in a pair of league matches at Revolution Tennis Club in Sartell, Minn. The Beavers garnered a 7-2 decision over Southwest Minnesota State University before dropping a 6-3 match to St. Cloud State University.
The Beavers got the day underway posting victories at all three doubles positions, led by the pair of Shaylin Prout (So., Thunder Bay, Ontario) and Deanie Hatch (So., Brea, Calif.), who posted an 8-0 victory at No. 1 singles before Caley Westin (Jr., Virginia, Minn.) and Mikela Kowatsch (Cashmere, Wash.) and Justine Scheller (Fr., Mankato, Minn.) and Nicci Hedtke (So., Nisswa, Minn.) posted 9-7 and 8-6 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
BSU returns to action Feb. 15-16 when it hosts Upper Iowa University and University of Minnesota Duluth in its 2014 home opening weekend. The Beavers will face the Peacocks at 6 p.m. Saturday, with a 2:30 p.m. match versus the Bulldogs Sunday. Both contests will be held at BSU’s Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center.
