The Bemidji State University men’s hockey team upset No. 4 Ferris State, 2-1. The Beavers used a pair of goals in the first period from Radoslav Illo (F, Sr., Bystrica, Slovakia) and Markus Gerbrandt (F, So., Edmonton, Alberta) to knock off the Bulldogs. It was the first victory over a top-5 team since Oct. 7, 2011 against then No. 1 Miami University.
In between the pipes, Andrew Walsh (G, Jr., Dawson Creek, B.C.) made 32 saves to earn his seventh victory of the season.
With the victory, Bemidji State (9-16-7, 9-11-4 WCHA) now sits in seventh place in the WCHA standings with 22 points.
The Beavers will be idle next weekend. The next series will be Feb. 28-Mar. 1 when Bemidji State hosts University of Alabama-Huntsvile.
