Bowling Green State University netted three power-play goals, while Bemidji State University failed to convert any of its six man advantage opportunities as the Beavers dropped their 2013-14 regular season finale, 5-3, Saturday at the BGSU Ice Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Radoslav Illo and Markus Gerbrandt each scored goals in the game and the Beavers held a 2-1 lead over the Falcons early in the second period, but BGSU finished by netting four consecutive goals and out shooting BSU 31-21 in the three-goal victory.
Jesse Wilkins turned aside 26 Bowling Green shots, but surrendered all five Falcon goals and was tagged with the loss. He dips to 3-7-3 on the season.
Despite the setback, the Beavers still clinched a spot in the 2014 WCHA Playoffs by virtue of a 2-1 Lake Superior State University loss at Ferris State University. The Beavers will be the No. 8 seed and play at regular season champion and No. 1 seed Ferris State. The best-of-three series will take place March 14-16 at Robert L. Ewigleben Ice Arena. Opening face-off will be at 6:07 p.m. (CT) Friday and Saturday, with a 4:07 p.m. (CT) opening tap Sunday, if necessary.
