The Bemidji State University men’s golf team is back in action this weekend as it travels to Wayne, Neb. to compete in the Upper Iowa University Invitational. The 36-hole event is set to get underway Saturday with the final 18 holes set to begin with a shotgun start Sunday morning.
Due to potentially unplayable course conditions in Waterloo, Iowa, the decision was made Wednesday to move the invitational to the par-72, 6,384-yard Wayne Country Club in Wayne, Neb.
The forecast for Wayne, Neb. is calling for highs in the mid-50s and a slight chance of rain Sunday, with sun and 60-degree temperatures Monday.
The nine-team event features teams from: Bemidji State, Concordia University, St. Paul, Minnesota State University, Mankato, Minot State University, St. Cloud State University, Upper Iowa University and Winona State University, among others.
The Beavers are coming off a ninth-place finish at the Quarry Oaks Collegiate in Omaha, Neb. March 30-31. Andrew Benson (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) led BSU placing 13th after carding a 36-hole total of 15-over-par 157 (79-78).
Benson’s 77.9 stoke average in 16 rounds and seven events this season its tops at BSU. He has finished among the top 15 in two events, which includes winning the SCSU Husky Classic Sept. 22-23.
