The Bemidji State University baseball team (13-12, 7-5 NSIC) travels to No. 3 Minnesota State University, Mankato (28-7, 16-4 NSIC) April 15 for a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader before returning home April 18-19 to host Concordia University, St. Paul (16-8, 8-6 NSIC) in a league four-game series. Tuesday’s double dip is slated for a 1:30 p.m start. Friday’s home twin bill is set to begin at 1 p.m., while Saturday’s first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.

• The Beavers won their fourth and fifth consecutive games April 10 when it swept their home opener versus Wayne State. BSU downed WSC in the NSIC twin bill 2-1 and 7-3. April 12 the winning streak came to an end when Winona State visited BSU Baseball Field and won 5-2 and 16-0 (seven innings). The April 13 twin bill was canceled due to cold weather.
• Senior Chad Hanson led the Beavers to the 2-2 NSIC home record April 10-12, as he posted a .417 batting average, .583 slugging percentage and .417 on-base percentage. He went 5-for-12 at the plate with two doubles and totaled seven bases. He added two RBIs and a run scored.
• Freshman Derek Masberg made the best of his collegiate debut April 10, as he earned the start and went the distance for a 2-1 victory against visiting Wayne State. The freshman hurled seven innings and allowed just one earned run on one hit (the one hit scored the lone run in the second inning). He issued four free passes and hit a batter, but fanned six Wildcats. After the third inning, just one Wildcat reached first base successfully (a walk in the fourth).
• Three players are batting .300 or better (2.0 AB/ game), guided by sophomore Joey Hanowski’s .333 average.
• Senior Zach Braun is batting .329 and has a team-best 27 RBIs, which stands tied for eighth in the NSIC (5th in RBI/g – 1.08).
• On the bump, junior Tyler Saeugling owns a 2-4 record and a team-best 4.21 ERA. His 29 strikeouts ranks 17th in the NSIC.
• Junior Drake Huggans’ five saves is tied for third in the NSIC.
• The Beavers were pegged to finish ninth in the 2014 NSIC Preseason Baseball Coaches’ Poll. Sixth through ninth in the poll were separated by 25 points.
