Bemidji State University’s Austyn Eng (So., Braham, Minn.) and Derek Masberg (RHP, 6-4, 185, Fr., R/R, Kilkenny, Minn.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week, after outstanding athletic performances during the week of April 7-13.
Eng’s performance at the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University Invitational helped lead the Bemidji State track and field team to a third place finish April 12. Eng was one of two Beavers to win an event, claiming the pole vault title with a personal-best 10-feet, two-inches. She cleared the height on her first attempt to separate herself from the logjam at the height and took top honors. The mark stand as BSU’s best outdoor vault since the 2012 campaign and ranks her 19th in the NSIC this outdoor season.
This week’s honor marks the first Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week selection for Eng and the first of 2014 outdoor season for a member of the BSU track and field team. Fellow vaulter Hailey Horob (So., Williston, N.D.) was selected to receive the award during the indoor season Jan. 22.
