Led by a +22, 166 (85-81) by junior Paige Tompkins (Milner, N.D.), the Bemidji State University women’s golf team placed ninth and the 17th annual Mustang Invitational. The 36-hole, two-day event took place at the Marshall Country Club Saturday and Sunday.
Augustana College paced the 12-team field placing three individuals among the top five on the leaderboard. The Vikings led from wire to wire firing low team totals on each day of competition and finished with a +51, 627 (313-314) to hold a 12-stroke lead over second-place Minnesota State University, Mankato.
MSU’s Kanya Sethasompobe successfully defended her 2013 Mustang Invite title carding matching rounds of 76 (+4) to complete the event at 627 (+8) and a one-shot lead over the 78-player field for the individual medalist honor.
The Beavers return to Bemidji, Minn. to host the 2014 BSU Invitational Sept. 26 at Bemidji Town and Country Club.
