The Bemidji State University volleyball team travels south this weekend to play a pair of ranked opponents. On Friday BSU will face reigning national champions, Concordia-St. Paul and Saturday it will face Minnnesota State University, Mankato. First serve for the two matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. and 5 p.m, respectively.
First NSIC Win
Last Tuesday the Beavers got their first conference victory of the season against St. Cloud State. The sweep was the first for the Beavers versus a NSIC opponent since Oct. 26, 2012 against University of Mary.
Volkmann Watch
Courtney Volkmann continues to rack up assists for the Beavers and now has 2,132 assists in her career. Volkmann needs 209 helpers to move into a tie for sixth place with former Beaver Amy Soehnen.
You Got Yosted
BSU sophomore Jessica Yost currently ranks ninth in the conference with 173 kills this season (3.39 kill/set).
DeJong Digging
DeJong currently ranks sixth in the NSIC with 226 digs and ranks eighth in the conference with 4.43 digs per set.
On the Block
Senior Rachel Craig is tied for sixth in the NSIC in blocks with 48. Craig has led the Beavers in blocks in each of her four seasons.
Chadwick Climbing
Head Coach Wayne Chadwick currently has 31 career wins as BSU’s head coach which is the fifth most in program history. Chadwick needs just one win to tie former Beaver head coach Jan Gudknecht for fourth on the all-time wins list.
Series history vs. Concordia St. Paul
The Beavers are 9-27-1 all-time against the Golden Bears, but CU has won the last 25 matches against Bemidji State, including both matches last season. Bemidji State last defeated CU Nov. 2, 2001 in Bemidji, Minn., 3-2.
Series history vs. Minnesota State
Bemidji State and Minnesota State have met a total of 52 times with Minnesota State having the 34-18 advantage over Bemidji State. BSU last defeated the Mavericks September 13, 1997, 3-1.
