Bemidji State University’s Megan Lushanko (F, Jr., Chisago City, Minn.) Ryan Shields (QB, 6-1, 181, So., Roseville, Calif.) and have been selected as Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week, after outstanding individual athletic performances during the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5.
Lushanko helped the Bemidji State women’s hockey team defeat both Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and University of Vermont at home last weekend, netting a goal and two assists. Lushanko ended the weekend with a +3 plus/minus rating and currently leads the team with five points (2G, 3A).
This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week selection marks the first of Lushanko’s season and the second of the season for a member of the BSU women’s hockey team. She follows Stephanie Anderson (F, 5-9, Jr., North St. Paul, Minn.), who earned the award last week.
The BSU women’s hockey team, which is off to a program-best 4-0-0 start, is idle this weekend but will return Oct. 17-18 when it opens WCHA play at the Ohio State University. The puck drops at 5:07 p.m. and 11:07 a.m., respectively from Columbus, Ohio.
