Bemidji State goaltender Sonja Barr has been selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, announced today by league officials, after leading the BSU soccer team to a pair of wins in league play Oct. 18-19.
Barr led the Beavers to a 2-0-0 record last weekend in home matches versus Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead. Saturday she collected eight saves in a 4-0 victory over NSU and turned aside three shots Sunday in a 3-0 victory over the Dragons. Her third and fourth shutouts of the season matched a career-high set in 2012 and stretched her current shutout streak to a career long 289 minutes and seven seconds. She finished the weekend with 11 saves for a perfect save percentage (1.000) and a goals against average of 0.00.
The Beavers, which improved to 7-6-1 overall and 6-4-1 in NSIC play, ride a five-match unbeaten streak (4-0-1) into a pair of home contests next weekend. BSU hosts Upper Iowa University at 6 p.m. Friday and wraps up the weekend with a 1 p.m. match up with Winona State University. Both matches will be played at Chet Anderson Stadium.
