Emily Turner led the Bemidji State cross country team to 12th place at the 2014 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship Saturday in Wayne, Neb. The junior turned in a time of 23:42.0 to finish 45th individually.

Four of the eight BSU competitors recorded times better than their 2013 league championship marks on the 6,000-meter course.

Nicole Crummy led the BSU crew improving 1:38 on her 2013 time, and finished 61st with a 24:16.52, while Turner trimmed 24, Jolynne Denman posted a time of 25:05.74 to better her mark by 12 seconds and Sammy Taube’s 27:32.58 was a five-second improvement over her championship mark in 2013.

Augustana College won the team event on a tie-breaker over University of Minnesota Duluth.

Northern State University’s Sasha Hovind won the individual crown with a 21:19:75.

The top 20 individuals earned All-NSIC honors, while Augustana’s Head Coach Tracy Hellman was named NSIC Coach of the Year.

The Beavers will not take the next two weeks to prepare for the 2014 NCAA Central Region Championship on the very same course in Wayne, Neb. The starting gun is set for noon Nov. 22.
