Bemidji State University head coach Tom Serratore previews the Beavers’ upcoming WCHA series with Michigan Tech along with senior goaltender Andrew Walsh and senior blueiner Sam Rendle Tuesday as the team met the media.
BSU continues WCHA play this weekend when it hosts the No. 5 Huskies. The Military Appreciation weekend series will get underway at 7:37 p.m. Friday with a 7:07 p.m. start set for Saturday. All current of former members the military are eligible for a buy-one, get-one free ticket deal and free popcorn when presenting proper ID at the Sanford Center Bob Lowth Ford Pickup Window.
It seems ironic for teams toting histories dating back to 1919 and 1947, respectively, and have logged in excess of 4,200 games between them to have met just 14 times prior to this weekend series, but the first head-to-head match up didn’t take place until Jan. 12, 2007. BSU and MTU open the weekend with the series tied 5-5-4, however, the Beavers are without a win in the last six (0-3-3) meetings between the teams. Five of the last match ups between the teams have been extended to overtime in order to decide the outcome, which includes the last three meetings, all of which ended in a 2-2 (OT) tie. BSU’s last victory over Michigan Tech came Oct. 22, 2011, 3-1, at Sanford Center.
