BSU Women’s Hockey Continues to Win

The #9/10 Bemidji State women’s hockey team came into today’s game against the #8/9 ranked University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs riding a 4-game unbeaten streak. The Bulldogs brought their own streak of 9 straight wins to the Sanford Center. It was the first time ever the two teams played each other while being ranked in the top ten in the nation.

The Bulldogs scored first just 6:30 into the game, but BSU would answer back with four unanswered goals.

Like most of their games this season, Bemidji State would get scoring from multiple players: Kristine Grenier, Ivana Bilic, Lauren Miller and Kaitlyn Tougas. Bilic’s goal would be the game-winner and her 4th career goal against UMD. Tougas sent in an empty net goal late in the third period for the 4-1 win.

The Beaver defense would be led by goaltender Brittni Mowat who once again came up with some highlight reel saves. Mowat stopped 31 of 32 shots she saw while her teammates blocked 22 more shots in front of her.

With the win, Bemidji State remains unbeaten in 5 games, all against nationally ranked opponents while putting a halt to UMD’s 9-game win streak.

The Beavers are now 4-4-1-1 in WCHA play and 8-4-1 overall. UMD is 5-5-1-1 in the league and 10-5-2 overall.

The second game of the weekend series is scheduled for Saturday at 2:07pm. Live game coverage begins at 1:30pm on the Beaver Radio Network.
