Bemidji State University forward Gerry Fitzgerald has been selected for Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week honors after leading the BSU scoring attack in a non-conference series split with St. Cloud State University Nov. 28-29.
Fitzgerald led the Beavers in scoring with three points, including his first collegiate multi-point effort and a game-winning goal, as Bemidji State split a non-conference series with then-No. 16 St. Cloud State. The freshman from Port Alberni, British Columbia lifted BSU to a 4-1 win on Saturday with the first game-winning goal of his young career, taking a double-assist from his two brothers (Myles and Leo) and finding the back of the net at the 8:13 mark of the third period. Fitzgerald also scored a power-play goal and added an assist during the Beavers’ loss on Friday night. He finished the weekend with a blocked shot and +2 plus/minus rating.
Now 4-10-0 overall and 2-6-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play, BSU returns to action Dec. 5-6 when it travels to the Land of the Midnight Sun for a two-game league set at University of Alaska Anchorage. Opening faceoff Friday is set for 10:07 p.m. CST, while Saturday the teams will go head-to-head at 7:07 p.m. CST.
