The Bemidji State University women’s ice hockey team makes its first road trip since late October this weekend as it travels south to face St. Cloud State University Dec. 12-13 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) clash.
About the Beavers
BSU has been led offensively by Kaitlyn Tougas and Ivana Bilic. Tougas leads the team with 14 points (6g, 8a), while Bilic paces the squad in assists (10) and ranks second in points (13)
Sophomore Brittni Mowat has seen the bulk of the work in net for the Beavers. Mowat is 8-3-1 with an 1.58 goals against average and .949 save percentage. The Glenboro, Manitoba native is 7-1-0 in her last eight starts.
St. Cloud State is coming into the weekend having lost nine straight games. Despite the losing skid, the Huskies have already surpassed its four-game win total from last season. SCSU is under the leadership of first-year head coach Eric Rud. Rud is 5-13-1 (2-9-1 WCHA) in his first season.
SCSU’s offense has been led by junior Molly Illikainen. Illikainen, a transfer from Providence College, is tied for tenth in the WCHA with eight goals.
Senior Audrey Hanmer has also supplied some offense from the Huskies blue line as she leads the team with six assists. Hanmer has also tallied three goals, which ties her for third on the team.
The Huskies have used two goalies this season and both have at least 10 starts. Julie Friend leads SCSU’s netminders with a 4-7-1 record, while Katie Fitzgerald leads the way in goals against average (2.67) and a .907 save percentage.
