The Bemidji State University men’s hockey team embarks on its final road series of the 2014-15 regular season this weekend, making a third trip to the state of Michigan since Feb. 6. This weekend the Beavers head to Big Rapids, Mich. for their first match of the season with Ferris State University. The series will get underway at 6:07 p.m. CST Friday with a 6:07 p.m. opening face-off set for Saturday’s series finale from Ewigleben Ice Arena.
Bemidji State posted 3-2 and 3-1 wins over Alaska-Anchorage Feb. 20-21 to secure its fourth series sweep of the 2014-15 season. BSU moves to 14-14-4 overall and 10-10-4 in WCHA play and remains tied with Northern Michigan for fourth place in the standings with 24 points and four games to play.
BSU is 11-4-4 in its last 19 games (.684) and have moved back to .500 on the season for the first time since the team was 3-3-0 Nov. 1.
Bitzer made 22 saves to pick up his 11th win of the season Friday and 18 more Saturday for his 12th victory. The last BSU goaltender to record more than 12 wins in a single season was Dan Bakala, who posted 14 in 2010-11.
Bitzer is the first rookie goaltender at BSU to record 12 victories since Matt Clime posted 12 as a freshman in 2004-05.
