Overall, this didn’t look like the team’s first game! The freshmen didn’t look like freshmen…and Bakala didn’t look like a guy who was playing his first “real” game.
Overall breakdown on the freshmen:
Jake Areshenko – played only Saturday night. Paired with Brad Hunt. Didn’t really notice Jake…which for a defensemen, is a good thing!
Travis Bosch – did not play
Matt Carlson – not a freshmen, but a newcomer. Only played on Friday night. Paired with Brad Hunt. He can really shot the puck. Not quite as hard a shot as Hunt, but has to be close. An intimidating frame (6’3, 210)…if he plays the body.
Mathieu Dugas – did not play
Jordan George – GREAT vision on the assist to Lowe Friday night. He was on the right side of the crease, and just flipped the puck to the left side to Lowe, who only had to tap it in. Freshmen don’t usually see the ice that well on game number 1!
Matt Hartmann – did not play
Aaron McLeod – Played on the fourth line both nights. Didn’t do anything to hurt the team…which is a good thing!
Brance Orban – Same comment as McLeod. Both guys should be just fine this season.
Brady Wacker – Only 5’7 and 155…but he can hit…HARD! I don’t remember the player from Air Force he hit, but Brady was giving up 4 inches and forty pounds…and Wacker leveled him! Playing with Peluso can be a steadying factor.
Now, they need to perform that way again on the road next week.
