The Bemidji State University tennis team traveled to Sartell, Minn. to face Martin Luther College in a nonconference match Sunday, March 22. The match resulted in a 9-0 win for the Beavers.
BSU started out strong as they took all three doubles matches. The No. 2 doubles pair of Carly Westin and Rachel Franklin as well as BSU’s No. 3 team, Sabrina Okeson and Rachel Franklin didn’t allow their opponents to win a single game, 8-0. The Beavers’ success continued on throughout the day as they went into singles play, also winning all six matches. No. 1 singles player, Shaylin Prout, outscored her opponent 6-0 for a straight-set win, as well as Carly Westin and Justine Scheller, at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Beavers, now 2-7 overall and 1-6 in NSIC play, will be back on the road March 28-29, traveling to Grand Forks, N.D. for a pair of NSIC conference match ups. BSU will open the weekend with a 9 a.m. contest against University of Mary Saturday and will follow that with a 5:30 p.m. match against Minnesota State University, Moorhead. The Beavers will wrap up the weekend with a match against University of Minnesota Crookston at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
