Bemidji State University senior defender Ivana Bilic has been selected to participate in Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Development Team Selection Camp, Aug. 6-10, in Calgary, Alberta.

Bilic played in all 39 games for BSU in 2014-15 and led the nation with 147 blocked shots. She also paced Bemidji State’s defensemen with 23 points (5g-18a) and posted three multi-point games. Bilic’s 23 points ranked seventh among the WCHA’s top-scoring defensemen and 15th among blueliners nationally. The Coquitlam, British Columbia native was a two-time WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honoree and led the team with 18 assists.

The BSU defender earned an invitation to the camp following her 2014-15 performance and after a good showing at Canada’s National Development Team Conditioning Camp in May.

As one of 43 players attending the selection camp, Bilic will participate in practices, intrasquad games, dry land training, fitness testing and high-performance classroom sessions. The invitees will be vying for a spot on the Development Team’s 23-player roster that will travel to Lake Placid, N.Y. for a three-game series against the United States Women’s Under-22 Select Team, Aug. 19-22.

Following the series, Hockey Canada scouts, along with the team’s coaching staff, will continue to evaluate players with their club, college or university teams during the 2015-16 season, in preparation for selecting the Canadian 2016 Nations Cup Team as well as future camps and events with Canada’s National Women’s Team.
