The Bemidji State University football team thrived in all phases of the game Saturday during a 47-7 win at Concordia University-St. Paul. The win is the Beavers first of the season heading out of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference interdivisional play.
Bemidji State began scoring early and often in an all-around outstanding performance from the offense, defense and special teams. The Beavers scored 10 points in the first quarter, followed by 17 points in each of the second and third quarters, and finished with a 50-yard field goal by Isaac Aanerud in the fourth quarter. The Gang Green Defense allowed the Golden Bears on a nine-yard drive, the longest by the defensive starters before leaving the field late in the fourth quarter.
On the day, the Gang Green Defense forced seven three-and-outs in CSP’s 10 offensive drives that starters were in play. The starters also held the Golden Bears to three first downs and 34 yards of total offense, before the second string was inserted in the fourth quarter to allow a total of six first downs and 109 yards of total offense. The longest drive by the Golden Bears on the day was just six plays, coming on their final drive of the game. Prior to that final offensive drive for CSP, BSU had allowed a long-drive of just nine yards to the Golden Bears.
The 47 total points on offense is the most scored since a 49-0 win against Minot State on Nov. 10, 2012.
Hein set career-highs in passing yards (272), passing touchdowns (4) and total touchdowns (5). Nomane set a career-high in rushing yards (116) while Aanerud also set career marks in total field goals (4), field goal long (50) and extra point conversions (5).
Bemidji State returns home next week for Homecoming while welcoming in University of Mary (N.D.) for a 2 p.m. kickoff in Chet Anderson Stadium. The Beavers and Marauders will open NSIC North action with the game.
