Sarah Stram scored her sixth goal of the season in the 29th minute and Catherine Arneson recorded her first shutout of 2015 to lead the Bemidji State University soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Wayne State College Sunday.
The victory snapped a four-match losing skid for the Beavers and allowed the team to improve to 6-4-0 overal and 3-4-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
After 28 minutes of action, senior Emily Olson found Stram with a pass at the top of the 18-yard box and BSU leading scorer, found the back of the net. The goal ended a scoreless streak of 343:26 dating back to Sept. 20 match against Minot State University.
Arneson was only called upon to stop one shot on goal in the game, as the Beavers controlled play for large portions of time resulting in a 25-6 shot differential and an 11-1 edge in shots on goal for the Beavers.
Bemidji State returns home to Chet Anderson Stadium Oct. 10-11 for a pair of league match ups. The Beavers host Southwest Minnesota State University Saturday at 1 p.m. before welcoming the University of Sioux Falls for a special senior day match at 1 p.m. Sunday.
