The Bemidji State University men’s golf team sits fifth in the 2015-16 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship after posting rounds of 301 (+17) and 302 (+18) Monday and Tuesday at the par-71, 6,669-yard Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn.

BSU, which was just one stroke behind Upper Iowa University (301-301—602/+34) for fourth place, is 20 shots off the pace set by defending conference champion Minnesota State University, Mankato, which finished the fall portion of the event at 15 over par (286-297—583) to hold a six-stroke advantage over the field heading into the spring portion of the event.

The Beavers had two freshmen among the top 11 scores on the leaderboard and were led by Cody Cook. Cook fired rounds of 72 (+1) and 73 (+2) to finish with a three-over-par 145, one shot out of a four-way tie for the individual lead in fifth. In addition, Bemidji State newcomer Will Czeh is tied for 11th at six over par (72-76—148).

The fall portion of the 2015-16 NSIC Championship serves as the first half of the unique split-season, cumulative, 72-hole event. The final 36 holes will be played April 9-10 in Smithville, Mo.

The championship also brings the Beavers’ 2015-16 fall season to a close. BSU will return to action in March.
